Silicone Toy Pick Up Truck β the one with a bed to fill and tip out
A soft one-piece truck in food-grade platinum silicone, 11 x 5.5 x 5.5cm, in Navy, Red, Beige and Blue. Suitable from 6 months. It is the larger of our two silicone vehicles, and the open load bed is the reason to pick it.
πͺ£ Filling it and tipping it out is the actual game
Somewhere around ten to fourteen months, most babies become completely absorbed by putting things into containers and taking them out again. It looks repetitive and it is β it is also how they work out that objects carry on existing when they are out of sight, and that a hand can be made to let go on purpose.
An open truck bed is a container that moves, which is a step up from a box. Wooden blocks, a sock, three raisins, a smaller toy: it all goes in, gets driven somewhere, and gets tipped out. Our silicone ambulance is the same idea without the bed β smaller, closed, better for a pocket. This is the one to buy if you want a vehicle that does something.
π§Έ Bought at six months, it becomes a truck at one
A six-month-old does not play with vehicles. They grab, bang and mouth, and a soft silicone truck is a very good thing to do all three to β no hard edges, nothing to chip, and enough shape to get a whole hand round. Actual truck play, the pushing and the loading, arrives months later.
That is unusual value in a baby toy: the same object earns its keep at the grabbing stage and again at the pushing stage, which is most of a year apart. Few toys at this price are still in use that long.
π€« Soft wheels, which cuts both ways
Silicone grips. That means this truck travels about a hand's width when pushed and then stops, and it is almost silent on floorboards β no clatter, nothing shooting under the sofa, nothing marking a skirting board. With a baby on a rug, that is exactly right: the truck stays where they put it.
If what you want is a car that races across a room for a two-year-old, this is the wrong toy and we would rather tell you now. Our wooden push and pull toys are the ones with hard wheels and proper roll.
π¬ The same silicone as our feeding range
This comes from the same supplier, and is the same food-grade platinum silicone, as the plates and bowls in our feeding range β and that material has been through proper testing. Our silicone plates and bowls were tested as finished products to EN 14372:2004, the European standard for children's feeding utensils, across 15 samples covering 13 colours, with nothing detected in migration of elements, phthalate content, volatile compounds, formaldehyde release or bisphenol A release. A bowl from the range was separately tested by Eurofins to LFGB Sections 30 and 31, the German food-contact standard and among the strictest anywhere, where it passed overall migration, peroxide value and volatile organic matter testing, with no bisphenol A detected and no perceptible odour or taste passing into food.
We would rather be precise about what that covers. Those are tests on the material, and on finished feeding products made from it β not on this truck. It is the reason we are relaxed about a baby chewing it, and the reports are published on our silicone information page rather than summarised and left at that.
𧽠It cleans in seconds, which matters more than it sounds
One piece of non-porous silicone with no fabric, no battery compartment and no seam for food to get into. A wipe, or warm soapy water, and it is done. It does not mind being dropped in a puddle, taken in the bath or chewed on while teething, and it does not hold a smell.

β Frequently asked questions
Truck or ambulance?
Truck if you want the open bed to load and tip, and the larger size for a baby getting a whole hand round it. Ambulance if you want the smaller one at 9cm for a pocket or a changing bag. Same material, same age, different job.
Does it roll properly?
A short distance, slowly, quietly. Silicone wheels grip rather than glide. That is a feature with a baby and a limitation with a toddler who wants speed.
Can they chew it?
It tolerates being mouthed, and at six months everything is β it is the same food-grade silicone as the bowls we have had tested for migration and bisphenol A. It is not a teether, though: there is no shape designed to reach back gums. If teething is the problem you are solving, our teethers are the right tool.
Is it a bath toy?
It is fine in the bath and nothing soaks in, but it is solid silicone with no squirt hole, so it neither squirts nor floats well. Our bath toys are built for it.
Will the colour fade or mark?
The colour runs through the silicone rather than sitting on the surface, so it does not chip or peel the way painted toys can. Light surface scuffs wipe off.
Does it make a good gift?
A good one for a six-month birthday or a first Christmas, because it is useful immediately and still useful a year later. Beige and Navy are the two that tend to get chosen as presents.
π The pair, and what else fits
- Silicone Toy Pick Up Truck β this one. 11cm, four colours, open load bed. The one that does something.
- Silicone Toy Ambulance β 9cm, white or cream, closed body. The pocket and changing-bag one.
- Silicone toys β everything else we stock in the same soft, wipeable, chewable material.
- Suitable from 6 months β the rest of what works at this stage.
Because this one spans such a long stretch, both our stage guides are worth a look: the best toys for a 6 month old for where it starts, and the best toys for a 1 year old for where the load bed comes into its own.
Safety information
For use with adult supervision. Check the toy over before each play session and stop using it if the silicone splits or tears or any part works loose. Keep it away from sharp objects and naked flame.
