Baby bibs — built for mess, made to look good

Drool, purée, or that surprise mashed banana on the wall — our bibs have seen it all. The right one depends entirely on which stage you're at, and they're not interchangeable.

Which bib for which stage

  • Teething and drooling, from about 3 months. Absorbent cotton or muslin, worn most of the day and changed often. Our organic muslin bandana bibs come in a pack of three, which is roughly a day's supply.
  • Weaning, from 6 months. This is where silicone earns its place. A silicone bib with a food-catching pocket rinses under the tap in seconds and catches a surprising proportion of what escapes. No washing machine, no drying time.
  • Self-feeding, from about 9 months. When they're using their own spoon, arms get involved. A sleeved bib covers what a normal one doesn't — and saves a full outfit change after lunch.

Silicone or fabric?

Most families end up with both, and they're doing different jobs. Fabric is softer and better for all-day drool. Silicone is for meals — wipe-clean, dishwasher safe, and it holds its shape so the pocket actually stays open rather than collapsing flat.

The honest downside of silicone: it's not as comfortable to wear for hours, and some babies pull at it more. The honest downside of fabric: it soaks through, so you'll be changing it mid-meal.

How many do you need?

More than you think for the drooling stage — five or six muslins in rotation isn't excessive. For weaning, two silicone bibs is plenty, since they're clean again within a minute.

All our bibs are BPA-free, PVC-free and phthalate-free. Complete the weaning setup with our silicone plates, bowls and sippy cups, or take a complete weaning set.
