Silicone Waterproof Baby Bib β the one for meals, not for dribble
A soft, waterproof bib in food-grade platinum silicone with a food-catching pocket along the bottom, which wipes clean in seconds. Adjustable at the neck to fit from 0 months to 4 years and beyond, in four colours. It is the mealtime bib β and it is worth being clear about what that means before you buy.
π½οΈ Meals, not all day β and here is why that matters
A silicone bib repels everything. Nothing soaks through, so what lands on it stays on the surface and comes off under a tap. That is exactly what you want for weaning, when the food is wet and most of it is going somewhere other than the mouth.
What it is not is a dribble bib. It is not absorbent, so a teething baby who is drooling steadily will have a wet chin above it rather than a dry one, and it is too substantial to leave on between meals. For that job you want cotton muslin against the skin, soaking it up β our organic muslin bandana bibs come three to a pack and are made for exactly that. Most families need both, and our guide to silicone bibs vs muslin bibs sets out which does which.
π₯ The pocket catches what the mouth misses
The bottom edge folds out into a deep pocket, and that is the part that earns its keep. Because silicone holds its shape rather than lying flat against the chest, the pocket stays open and collects the dropped peas, the rejected broccoli and most of a yoghurt. At the end of the meal you tip it into the bin or back onto the plate β your call, and nobody is watching.
It is not a substitute for a mat under the high chair, but it does noticeably reduce the archaeology afterwards.
π° Thirty seconds at the tap, and it is done
This is the whole argument for silicone over fabric at mealtimes. There is no washing machine cycle, no waiting for it to dry, and no stack of stained bibs in the utility room. Rinse it, wipe it, hang it up, and it is ready for the next meal. It takes the dishwasher too, though the tap is usually quicker. Silicone also holds no smell and does not stain the way cotton does against tomato and carrot.
π It grows, which is the quiet value
The neck fastening adjusts across several positions, so the same bib fits a six-month-old starting purΓ©es and a four-year-old who still can't be trusted with spaghetti. One bib across that whole span is unusual β most fabric bibs are outgrown twice over in the same period.
π¬ What we have actually had tested
The solid silicone it is made from was tested by an independent accredited laboratory with nothing detected in migration of 19 elements under EN 71-3, phthalates, 553 PFAS, 15 PAHs, or any of the 247 REACH substances of very high concern. Our plates and bowls in the same silicone were separately tested as finished products to EN 14372, the European standard for children's feeding utensils. The reports are on our silicone information page.

β Frequently asked questions
It says from 0 months β is it any use on a newborn?
Honestly, not much. The neck adjusts small enough to fit, but a newborn's problem is dribble and posseting, and silicone does not absorb. A muslin bib is the right tool for the first few months. This one comes into its own the week solid food starts.
Does the pocket actually work, or does food go on the floor?
It works, and better than a fabric bib's pocket does, because silicone is stiff enough to hold the pocket open rather than letting it collapse flat. Expect it to catch most of what is dropped deliberately and a fair share of what is dropped by accident.
Will my baby pull it off?
Some will, and a silicone bib is more noticeable to wear than a cotton one. The adjustable neck helps β too loose and it gets grabbed, too tight and it is objected to. It is worth spending a meal finding the right notch.
How do I clean it?
Rinse under the tap and wipe, paying attention to the pocket, which is where the evidence collects. For something baked on, warm soapy water or the dishwasher. It can be boiled or sterilised if you want it properly clean after illness.
Will it stain?
Less than cotton, but silicone can pick up light colour from turmeric, tomato and beetroot. A soak in warm water with bicarbonate of soda lifts it.
Does it smell of the factory?
New silicone sometimes does. A wash or a few minutes in boiling water before first use clears it.
Does it make a good gift?
A useful one rather than an exciting one. It works best bundled with a plate or a suction bowl in a matching colour.
π§Ί Which bib do you need?
They are not alternatives β they do different jobs, and most families end up with both kinds:
- Silicone Waterproof Bib β this one. For meals. Nothing soaks through, a pocket that stays open, rinses at the tap, and it adjusts from 0 to 4 years. One bib, no laundry.
- Organic Muslin Bandana Bibs, pack of 3 β for dribble and teething. Absorbent cotton against the skin, worn all day, and three in a pack because they need changing.
- Sleeved Bib β for the properly destructive stage. Full arm coverage, for painting and for anything involving a spoon and yoghurt.
See them all in our bibs collection. Our guide to silicone bibs vs muslin bibs covers which to use when, and signs your baby is ready for weaning lists what you actually need at the start.
Safety information
Adult supervision recommended at mealtimes. Check the neck fastening and the silicone before each use and set the bib aside if it splits, tears or the fastening works loose. Not for sleep, and not to be left on an unattended child.
