House Shape Sorter

House Shape Sorter — post the blocks in, lift the roof, and do it all again

A wooden house, 20 x 17.5 x 20cm, with eight patterned blocks, each its own shape and colour, to post through the matching holes. When they are all in, lift the light-blue roof to get them out. There is a friendly monkey character on the house. Suitable from 12 months, from Speedy Monkey.

🏠 The roof is the clever bit

The hardest part of a shape sorter for a toddler is not the posting. It is that the blocks disappear, and they cannot get them back. On this one the roof lifts off, so they can tip the blocks out and start again without asking for help. A toy they can reset themselves is one they come back to.

🔷 Eight blocks, eight shapes

Every block is a different shape, so each fits only one hole. That makes it a proper puzzle rather than a guessing game, and it is why it lasts. At one they post the easy shapes. By two they are working through all eight.

🌳 Wood and paint

Speedy Monkey design their toys in France and make them from wood finished in child-safe paints. This one carries UKCA and CE marking.

⚠️ Worth knowing before you buy

• Expect help at first. Most one-year-olds take blocks out long before they can put them in. Guiding their hand to the right hole is part of the game.
• Wood is wipe-clean only. Use a damp cloth, never a soak, and no detergents.

❓ Frequently asked questions

How does the roof work?
It lifts off the top of the house, so the blocks can be tipped out once they have all been posted in.

When will they manage all eight?
Usually somewhere between 18 months and two and a half. Start them with the circle and the square.

How is it different from the Animal Shape Box?
This one is bigger, with eight blocks and a roof that lifts. The Animal Shape Box is smaller and uses animal shapes, so it suits carrying about.

How do I clean it?
Wipe with a damp cloth. Do not soak painted wood.
