Three toys on one ring — and each one does something different

A newborn can't yet choose what to play with, so the useful thing is a toy that offers several answers at once. Soft organic cotton velour, and a gentle rattle inside rather than a loud one. It's the part most babies end up favouring, because it's the softest thing on the ring and the easiest to get a whole fist around.

🦋 The butterfly crinkles

That papery crinkle is one of the few sounds a very young baby will work to make happen again. Squeeze, crunch, squeeze again — it's the earliest version of cause and effect, and it needs no strength at all.

❓ Frequently asked questions

The toys don't come off — doesn't that make washing awkward?
It does, and it's the honest trade-off with this version. The wooden ring is closed, so nothing detaches: washing means hand washing the fabric parts while keeping the wood out of the water, then letting it dry properly before it goes back to the pram. Not difficult, but it's a two-minute job rather than a thirty-second one. If that matters to you, our Blue Rabbit version has a silicone ring with an opening, so each toy comes off and can be washed on its own.

How do I wash it?
Hand wash only — not the machine, and not soaked. Wash the cotton parts, keep the wooden ring dry, and let it air dry fully.

Can it attach to a pram or a car seat?
Yes. A separate cotton velcro strap is included, so the ring fastens to a pram bar, a cot rail, a car seat handle or a playgym frame rather than being dropped over the side of the pushchair every hundred yards. What can a newborn actually do with it?
Not much holding, at first. In the early weeks this is a toy to be strapped where your baby can see it, with the mirror and the rattle doing the work while they look and listen. Grabbing arrives somewhere around three or four months, and pulling on the sprung tethers after that. It's a toy that unlocks in stages rather than one they can use on day one.

Is anything small enough to worry about?
Nothing detaches on this version, which is the quiet advantage of the closed wooden ring: no loose pieces to find, lose, or leave within reach of an older sibling. The velcro strap is a separate item, so keep that with the toy rather than loose in the pram. It's EN71 compliant and rated from birth.

They look like two colours of the same toy, and they aren't quite — the rings are made of different things and it changes how you live with them. Both come with the cotton velcro strap.
