Stacking Kitten β€” a first wooden ring stacker, small enough to go everywhere

🐱 Why a first stacker should be this simple

Threading a piece onto a peg sounds easy. At twelve months it is not. A baby has to line the hole up with the peg, push, and let go at the right moment, and they are still negotiating with their own fingers. Four pieces is enough to be a challenge and few enough to finish, and finishing is what makes them want to do it again.

The kitten face is the finish line. Once the last piece goes on, the toy turns from a pile of shapes into a cat, which is a far better reward than a neat stack. It is also a ready-made game for you: "where's the kitten?", "red one next", "where are her ears?" β€” colours and early words without anyone sitting down to teach them.

At 6 x 2.5 x 11.5cm it is a lot smaller than most ring stackers, so it travels β€” to grandparents, cafΓ©s, the back of the car. Bigger stackers stay at home; this one comes out.

⚠️ Worth knowing before you buy

  • It is small. 11.5cm tall, so it is a first stacker for a one-year-old, not a centrepiece for a playroom. For something taller, our Bunny Wobbly Stacker stands 23cm.
  • Painted wood is wipe-clean only. A damp cloth, never a soak or the dishwasher.
  • The peg is rigid. That is normal for a ring stacker, but if you have a child who climbs and tumbles, the Bunny's peg bends on elastic instead.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Is it too small?
For a playroom showpiece, yes. For a one-year-old's hands, no β€” and the size is what lets it go in a bag. If you want height, the Bunny Wobbly Stacker is twice as tall.

Will they manage it at twelve months?
Taking the pieces off, straight away. Putting them back on takes practice, and it usually clicks somewhere between twelve and eighteen months. That gap is where the learning happens.

Can it go in the bath or the dishwasher?
No. It is painted wood, so a wipe with a damp cloth is all it needs. For a stacker that goes in water, our silicone stacking cups are made for the bath.

Do the pieces have to go on in order?
Not really β€” they all fit the peg. Any order works, which is exactly right for a first stacker. Sizing and ordering come later with toys like the Scarecrow Stacking Game.
