At only 6cm across, this is the slimmest thing in the range by a clear margin — the clown fish is half as wide again. That matters more than it sounds. A baby of three or four months cannot oppose a thumb yet, so they hold things by curling four fingers round and pressing against the palm. A narrow body fits that grip; a round one has to be scooped and tends to be dropped.

The leafy top gives a second, even narrower place to grab, so there are two ways into it depending on which end they find first.

❓ Frequently asked questions

What age is it for?
From birth. The face and the yellow hold a very young baby's attention; the grabbing and shaking start properly at around three or four months, which is when the narrow shape earns its keep.

How loud is the rattle?
Soft, and only when it moves. Nothing that will startle a newborn or wake a sleeping one.

Will it survive being washed?
Yes, with one step people forget. Warm wash on a delicate setting, no tumble dryer and no wringing — then reshape it while damp and let it dry naturally. That is what keeps a pineapple looking like a pineapple.

Is it a teether?
No. It will be chewed, and organic cotton is fine for that, but it will not give the firm counter-pressure a teething baby wants. Our teethers do that job properly.
