Silicone Toy Train Set β€” a soft nine-piece train that rolls, comes apart and goes in the mouth

A soft silicone train in nine pieces, 35 x 6.2 x 5.5cm when it is all joined up. The pieces mix and match in any order, and the silicone wheels roll on any floor. Food-grade platinum silicone, free from BPA, PVC and phthalates, and tested as a finished toy by an independent laboratory. Suitable from 6 months. It is the train for a baby who is not ready for a wooden one yet.

πŸš‚ Why a soft train first

Wooden trains are wonderful, but they are hard, and the ones we sell start at 12 or 18 months. A six-month-old wants to grab, bang, roll and chew β€” and a soft silicone train is made for exactly that. It is quiet when it is thrown, gentle when it lands on a face, and safe to gnaw.

Because the pieces join in any order, there is no wrong way to build it. Pulling them apart comes first, then pushing them back together, then lining them up into a long train β€” and rolling it across the floor, which at this age is the best bit.

πŸ‘Ά From six months, in stages

At six months it is about holding, mouthing and rolling a single piece. Pulling the train apart and pushing pieces together comes next, as hands get stronger and more deliberate. By the second year it becomes a train with a journey: lined up, pushed along, loaded with passengers and parked under the sofa.

πŸ”¬ What we have had tested

This train set has been tested by an independent laboratory as a finished toy, not just as material β€” for small parts that could come away on a toy meant for a child under three, for sharp edges and points, for flammability, and for lead, other heavy metals and phthalates. It passed on every count.

Separately, the silicone itself was tested by CTI, an accredited laboratory, with nothing detected in migration of 19 elements under EN 71-3, phthalates, 553 PFAS, 15 PAHs, or any of the 247 REACH substances of very high concern. The toy report is published on our silicone information page, and this train set is named in it β€” so you can check for yourself rather than take our word for it.

⚠️ Worth knowing before you buy

  • Hand wash only. Wipe it down or wash it in warm soapy water. Keep it out of the dishwasher, to look after the wheels.
  • Nine loose pieces. Soft pieces wander. Worth a count when it is tidied away.
  • Silicone picks up fluff. It is slightly grippy, which makes the pieces easy to hold, and it means they collect lint and crumbs. A rinse sorts it.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Do the wheels actually roll?
Yes β€” the wheels are silicone and roll on any floor, carpet included.

Do the pieces have to go in a set order?
No. They mix and match, so any arrangement makes a train.

Is it safe to chew?
Yes β€” it is food-grade platinum silicone, soft enough to mouth, and it has been tested as a finished toy. As with any toy, it is for supervised play.

Has it been safety tested?
Yes. It was tested as a finished toy by an independent laboratory and passed, and it is named in the report on our silicone information page.

Can it go in the dishwasher?
No β€” please wash it by hand. A wipe down or warm soapy water is all it needs, and it keeps the wheels in good order.

Does it make a good gift?
Yes β€” a lovely present for a six-month-old or a first Christmas, and a softer start before a wooden train.

πŸš‚ Which train or vehicle?

It looks very dull. Also the material is attracting all the dust in the room. Not happy with the purchase.

The train is like many products on our site, manufactured in pastel colours. We would recommend regular washing in the dishwasher, or with hot water and soap to remove any dust which has settled.
