Silicone Car Stacking Toy β a little car that comes apart and stacks back together
A small soft silicone car, 8 x 5.2 x 6.2cm, that comes apart into layers and stacks back together in order to rebuild it. Food-grade platinum silicone, free from BPA, PVC, latex and phthalates, dishwasher safe. In pastel or muted. Suitable from birth. Of our six silicone stackers this is the one for the child who points at every car, bus and digger in the street.
π For the child who loves vehicles
Some children will stack anything; others need a reason. A toy shaped like the thing they already love gets picked up first and put down last, and for a lot of toddlers that thing is a car. Here the reward for getting the layers back in the right order is a car they recognise, which is a much better incentive than a neat tower.
To be clear about what it is: this is a stacking puzzle in the shape of a car, not a push-along car. It is made of soft silicone so it can be chewed and squashed safely, and it is not designed to be wheeled across the floor. For a car that rolls, our wooden vehicles do that job; this one is for building.
𧩠A first puzzle with a right answer
Because the layers only rebuild the car in one order, it asks a child to look at shape and position as well as size β a step on from simply putting big under small. Expect it to come apart from the first months it is handled, and to go back together correctly somewhere well into the second year. In between, the pieces get sorted, chewed, lined up and carried about, all of which counts.
πΆ From birth, in stages
Rated from birth, and honest about it. In the early months it is something to look at, and from around three or four months the built car is a comfortable size to hold. From six months it goes in the mouth, and soft silicone with no hard edges is what you want there. Rebuilding it in order comes last.
π¬ What we have had tested
This toy has been tested by an independent laboratory as a finished toy, not just as material, along with every one of our silicone stackers β for small parts that could come away on a toy meant for a child under three, for sharp edges and points, for flammability, and for lead, other heavy metals and phthalates. It passed on every count.
Separately, the solid silicone itself was tested by CTI, an accredited laboratory, with nothing detected in migration of 19 elements under EN 71-3, phthalates, 553 PFAS, 15 PAHs, or any of the 247 REACH substances of very high concern. The toy report is published on our silicone information page, and all six of our silicone stackers, this one included, are named in it β so you can check for yourself rather than take our word for it.
β οΈ Worth knowing before you buy
- Silicone picks up fluff. It is slightly grippy, which is what makes it easy for small hands to hold, and the same property means it collects lint, pet hair and crumbs when dropped on a rug. A rinse under the tap sorts it. It is true of every silicone toy, ours included.
- It chews well but it is not a teether. Soft and fine to mouth, but not shaped to reach back gums. Our teethers are the right tool for real teething trouble.
- It does not roll. It is a car-shaped stacking puzzle in soft silicone, not a push-along toy. Worth knowing if you are buying for a child who will expect it to drive.

β Frequently asked questions
Will it pick up fluff and hair?
Yes β all silicone does. The slight grip that makes it easy for a baby to hold also catches lint. A quick rinse clears it.
Does it roll along like a toy car?
No. It is a stacking puzzle shaped like a car, made from soft silicone so that it is safe to mouth. It is for building, holding and chewing rather than driving.
How hard is it to put back together?
Harder than a rainbow or a graduated stacker, because the layers have to go in the right order to make the car. Taking it apart comes first by a long way; rebuilding it usually arrives in the second year.
Pastel or muted?
Pastel is the lighter and brighter of the two; muted is in earthier tones. Same car either way.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes, or warm soapy water. Silicone is non-porous, so nothing soaks in.
Is it the same silicone as your plates and bowls?
It comes from the same silicone supplier as our silicone plates and bowls.
Does it make a good gift?
A good small one, especially for a vehicle-mad toddler or a younger sibling who wants a car of their own that is safe to chew.
𧩠Which silicone stacker?
Six, all from birth, all the same soft silicone. This one first, then the other five easiest to hardest by what your child has to work out to put them back together:
- Car β this one. 8 x 5.2 x 6.2cm. Layers that stack back into a car, for a child who likes vehicles.
- Rainbow β 7 arches, 14 x 7.5cm. No wrong answer. The earliest and most open-ended.
- Stacking Cups β 7 cups, 8cm nested and 23.5cm as a tower, with holes in the bases for the bath.
- Flower β 6 graduated sections, 12.5cm tall. Only sits properly widest-to-narrowest, so it corrects itself.
- Flying Saucer β 8.6 x 7.6cm, with a pop-it layer to press. The smallest of the six.
- Dinosaur β 6 pieces, 13 x 12 x 4cm. Only one arrangement makes the dinosaur. The hardest.
If you would rather wood, our Stacking Kitten and Monkey Family Stacker start at 12 months. Our guide to the best stacking toys by age covers wooden and silicone side by side.
Safety information
For supervised play. Check the pieces before each use and stop using the toy if the silicone splits or tears. Keep away from sharp objects and naked flame.
