Silicone Rainbow Stacking Toy β seven arches, and no wrong way to put them back
Seven soft silicone arches that nest inside one another to make a rainbow about 14cm across and 7.5cm tall. Food-grade silicone, in bright rainbow or soft pastel, dishwasher safe. Suitable from birth. Of our six silicone stackers this is the most open-ended β and the easiest to succeed with, which at this age is the point.
π Why "no wrong answer" matters
Most stacking toys have a correct order, and a correct order means a child can get it wrong. That comes later and it is a good thing when it does. But before eighteen months or so, a toy that cannot be done wrong gets played with far longer than one that keeps telling them no.
Rainbow arches nest, stand on their ends, rock on their backs, line up in a row, and become a tunnel for a car or a bridge for an animal. Whatever arrangement they land in looks like something. That is why this is the one we would start with, and why it carries on being useful after the stacking itself is mastered.
πΆ From birth, in stages
It is rated from birth, and it earns that honestly, though not all at once. In the first weeks it is something to look at, and the bright version gives strong contrasting colour for young eyes. From around three or four months a single arch is easy to grip, and from about six months everything goes in the mouth β soft silicone with no hard edges is exactly what you want there. Taking the rainbow apart arrives well before putting it back together, and nesting them in size order comes nearer eighteen months to two years.
π¨ Bright or pastel
Two colourways, and the choice is not purely decorative. The bright version gives a young baby stronger colour contrast to look at; the pastel version is the one that sits quietly in a room. We would steer a newborn's present towards bright, and a nursery that has been thought about towards pastel β and neither is the wrong answer.
π¬ What we have had tested
This toy has been tested by an independent laboratory as a finished toy, not just as material, along with every one of our silicone stackers β for small parts that could come away on a toy meant for a child under three, for sharp edges and points, for flammability, and for lead, other heavy metals and phthalates. It passed on every count.
Separately, the solid silicone itself was tested by CTI, an accredited laboratory, with nothing detected in migration of 19 elements under EN 71-3, phthalates, 553 PFAS, 15 PAHs, or any of the 247 REACH substances of very high concern. The toy report is published on our silicone information page, and all six of our silicone stackers, this one included, are named in it β so you can check for yourself rather than take our word for it.
β οΈ Worth knowing before you buy
- Silicone picks up fluff. It is slightly grippy, which is what makes it easy for small hands to hold, and the same property means it collects lint, pet hair and crumbs when dropped on a rug. A rinse under the tap sorts it. It is the most common complaint about silicone toys anywhere, and it is true of all of ours.
- It chews well but it is not a teether. Soft enough to gnaw and fine to mouth, but not shaped to reach back gums. Our teethers are the right tool for real teething trouble.
- Seven loose pieces. Losing one arch leaves a gap in the rainbow that everybody notices. Worth keeping them together.

β Frequently asked questions
Will it pick up fluff and hair?
Yes β all silicone does, because the slight grip that makes it easy to hold also catches lint. A quick rinse clears it. If that would drive you to distraction, a wooden stacker such as our Stacking Kitten does not have the problem, though it starts at 12 months.
Can a newborn really use it?
To look at, yes, and to hold a single arch from three or four months. Stacking is a toddler activity. It is rated from birth because nothing about it is unsafe for a baby, not because a newborn will build rainbows.
Bright or pastel?
Bright for a young baby, because strong colour is easier for new eyes to pick out. Pastel if it is going to live on display. Both are the same toy.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes, or warm soapy water. Silicone is non-porous, so nothing soaks in.
Can it go in the bath?
It will not come to any harm, but it is solid, so there is nothing to fill or pour. Our silicone stacking cups are the bath one.
Does it make a good gift?
One of the best from-birth presents we sell, because it is useful at every stage from looking to building and it is not the thing everyone else brings.
𧩠Which silicone stacker?
Six, all from birth, all the same soft silicone. The honest way to choose is by what your child has to work out to put it back together β easiest first:
- Rainbow β this one. 7 arches, 14 x 7.5cm. No wrong answer; they nest, stand, rock or stack however they land. The earliest and most open-ended.
- Stacking Cups β 7 cups, 8cm nested and 23.5cm as a tower, with holes in the bases for the bath.
- Flower β 6 graduated sections, 12.5cm tall. Only sits properly widest-to-narrowest, so it corrects itself.
- Flying Saucer β 8.6 x 7.6cm, with a pop-it layer to press. The smallest of the six.
- Car β 8 x 5.2 x 6.2cm. Layers that stack back into a car, for a child who likes vehicles.
- Dinosaur β 6 pieces, 13 x 12 x 4cm. Only one arrangement makes the dinosaur. The hardest.
If you would rather wood, our Stacking Kitten and Monkey Family Stacker start at 12 months. Our guide to the best stacking toys by age covers wooden and silicone side by side, and toys for babies under 6 months covers the early stage properly.
Safety information
For supervised play. Check the arches before each use and stop using the toy if the silicone splits or tears. Keep away from sharp objects and naked flame.
