Silicone Flying Saucer Stacking Toy — a little stacker with a pop-it layer to press

A small silicone flying saucer that comes apart into layers and stacks back together in order, 8.6 x 7.6cm when built. One of the layers is a pop-it, with bubbles to press in and pop back out. Food-grade platinum silicone, each layer one solid piece, dishwasher safe. In pastel or muted. Suitable from birth. It is the smallest of our six silicone stackers, and the only one with something to do even when it is not being stacked.

🫧 The pop-it layer

The pop-it is what sets this one apart. Pressing a bubble through and feeling it give is satisfying at any age — ask any adult who has picked one up — and for a baby it is a lesson in cause and effect: push here, something happens. It also gives small fingers something precise to aim at, which is good practice for the pointing and poking that comes before a proper pincer grip.

It means the saucer stays interesting in the pram, the car seat or a café, long after stacking has lost its appeal for the day. A toy that works in pieces as well as built is a toy that gets taken out of the house.

🛸 Small enough to go everywhere

At 8.6 x 7.6cm it fits in a changing bag or a coat pocket. It is the one we would choose as an out-and-about toy, and the one that suits a younger baby's hands best when built — small enough to hold whole, soft enough to chew.

👶 From birth, in stages

Rated from birth, and honest about it. In the early months it is something to look at, and from around three or four months the built saucer is a comfortable size to grip. From six months it goes in the mouth, and soft silicone with nothing painted or coated is what you want there. Pressing the pop-it bubbles comes as fingers get more deliberate, and putting the layers back in order arrives last, usually well into the second year.

🔬 What we have had tested

This toy has been tested by an independent laboratory as a finished toy, not just as material, along with every one of our silicone stackers — for small parts that could come away on a toy meant for a child under three, for sharp edges and points, for flammability, and for lead, other heavy metals and phthalates. It passed on every count.

Separately, the solid silicone itself was tested by CTI, an accredited laboratory, with nothing detected in migration of 19 elements under EN 71-3, phthalates, 553 PFAS, 15 PAHs, or any of the 247 REACH substances of very high concern. The toy report is published on our silicone information page, and all six of our silicone stackers, this one included, are named in it — so you can check for yourself rather than take our word for it.

⚠️ Worth knowing before you buy

  • Silicone picks up fluff. It is slightly grippy, which is what makes it easy for small hands to hold, and the same property means it collects lint, pet hair and crumbs when dropped on a rug or the floor of a café. A rinse under the tap sorts it. It is true of every silicone toy, ours included.
  • It chews well but it is not a teether. Soft and fine to mouth, but not shaped to reach back gums. Our teethers are the right tool for real teething trouble.
  • Small means easy to lose. The pocket-sized part is the appeal, and also the reason it ends up under the car seat. Worth a check before you leave anywhere.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Will it pick up fluff and hair?
Yes — all silicone does. The slight grip that makes it easy for a baby to hold also catches lint. A quick rinse clears it.

Can the pop-it bubbles come off?
No. The pop-it is part of a solid silicone layer, not a separate piece, and the saucer was tested as a finished toy for small parts and passed. As with any toy, it is for supervised play — stop using it if the silicone ever splits.

Is it too small to be a stacking toy?
Small, not too small. The layers are big enough for a toddler to handle and sort, and the size is what makes it portable. For a big stacking project, the stacking cups build to 23.5cm.

Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes, or warm soapy water. Silicone is non-porous, so nothing soaks in.

Pastel or muted?
Pastel is the lighter and brighter of the two; muted is in earthier tones. Same toy either way.

Does it make a good gift?
A lovely small one, and it sits well alongside a bigger present. It is also the stacker most likely to come out of the changing bag every day.

🧩 Which silicone stacker?

Six, all from birth, all the same soft silicone. This one first, then the other five easiest to hardest by what your child has to work out to put them back together:

  • Flying Saucer — this one. 8.6 x 7.6cm, with a pop-it layer to press. The smallest of the six.
  • Rainbow — 7 arches, 14 x 7.5cm. No wrong answer. The earliest and most open-ended.
  • Stacking Cups — 7 cups, 8cm nested and 23.5cm as a tower, with holes in the bases for the bath.
  • Flower — 6 graduated sections, 12.5cm tall. Only sits properly widest-to-narrowest, so it corrects itself.
  • Car — 8 x 5.2 x 6.2cm. Layers that stack back into a car, for a child who likes vehicles.
  • Dinosaur — 6 pieces, 13 x 12 x 4cm. Only one arrangement makes the dinosaur. The hardest.

If you would rather wood, our Stacking Kitten and Monkey Family Stacker start at 12 months. Our guides to the best stacking toys by age and toys for babies under 6 months cover the rest.

Safety information
