Jungle Activity Cube β€” six sides, six different things to find, and a mirror on one of them

A soft fabric cube, 14cm along every edge, with something different on each face: crinkly fabric, textured panels, embroidered jungle animals, a rattle, built-in teething rings and a baby-safe mirror. It is the only toy in the jungle range that rewards being turned over, which is rather the point.

🧊 Why a cube beats a flat toy

A baby who has found one good thing on a toy tends to stay there. A cube won't let them β€” every roll brings a new face, so the toy keeps asking a question instead of answering the same one. That's what turns two minutes of chewing into fifteen minutes of genuine investigation, and it is why a cube earns its place when the toy basket is already full.

The shape helps in a plainer way too. There is no right way up and no wrong end to grab, so a baby who can't yet aim a hand accurately still gets hold of something useful.

πŸͺž The mirror does more than you'd think

Somewhere between four and eight months, a baby starts to work out that the face in the mirror responds when they move. It is one of the first pieces of self-awareness there is, and it holds attention far longer than a pattern does. Good for tummy time, where you want something worth lifting the head for.

🦷 Teething rings where the hands already are

The rings are sewn into the cube rather than clipped on, so there is nothing to lose under the sofa and nothing to wash separately. When gums start to hurt, the toy already in their hands is the one that helps β€” which beats hunting for the teether that has gone missing again.

What we like about it

  • Six faces, each with something different on it β€” crinkle, texture, embroidery, rattle, mirror
  • A baby-safe mirror, which is the part that holds attention longest from around four months
  • Teething rings built in rather than attached, so nothing goes missing
  • 14cm along each edge β€” big enough to need two hands, light enough to lift
  • No right way up, so an inaccurate grab still lands on something
  • Good for tummy time, the playmat, the pram and the car seat
  • No batteries and no electronics
  • PVC free

❓ Frequently asked questions

It says from birth. Will a newborn actually do anything with it?
Honestly, not much at first. A newborn will look at it and be shown it, and that is worthwhile β€” but the cube properly comes alive from about four months, when a baby can hold it, turn it and find the mirror for themselves. Little Big Friends' own marketing points at six months for that reason. If you are buying for a newborn, buy it knowing the best of it is a few months out; if you are buying for a four-to-nine-month-old, it is close to ideal timing.

How do I clean it?
Surface clean only β€” a damp cloth and air dry. Nothing is printed on the cube about machine washing and the mirror panel and rattle rule it out, so we would not risk it. Worth saying plainly, because a toy that lives on the floor will need cleaning.

Is the mirror glass?
No. It is a baby-safe reflective panel sewn into the fabric, not glass.

Can it go in the pram or the car seat?
It can be put in either, and it's light enough not to be a nuisance. It has no clip or loop, though, so it isn't an attaching toy β€” if you want something that fastens on, the jungle activity spiral is the one made for that.

Does it make noise?
A rattle and the crinkle of the fabric, both only when it's moved. No batteries, nothing electronic, nothing to switch off at bedtime.

Is it a good new baby gift?
Yes, with one caveat: it is a gift that gets better at four months rather than one that gets used on day one. For a present that works from the first week, the Tim the Tiger comforter or the jungle gift box are the better bet.
