🪆 Why wooden nesting dolls wait until three

Traditional nesting dolls are hard wood, and the smallest doll in the set is small. That is why every wooden set we sell is rated 3 years and up. A baby wants to do exactly what nesting dolls invite — pull them apart, grip them, mouth them — and wood is the wrong material for that.

Silicone is the right one. These dolls are soft enough to squeeze and chew, easy to grip, and light enough to drop without damage to anything. So a baby gets the same lesson in bigger and smaller, inside and outside, years before a wooden set would be suitable.

At six months it is about holding, squeezing and chewing a single doll. Pulling the set apart comes next and is the first big thrill. Fitting one doll back inside another is harder than it looks and usually arrives in the second year, and getting all four back in size order comes later still — so the same set keeps unlocking new challenges.

🧼 Easy to keep clean

Anything a baby chews needs washing often, and these go straight in the dishwasher. Silicone is non-porous, so nothing soaks in — a real advantage over wooden dolls, which can only be wiped.

⚠️ Worth knowing before you buy

• Silicone picks up fluff. It is slightly grippy, which is what makes it easy for small hands to hold, and the same property means it collects lint, pet hair and crumbs. A rinse under the tap sorts it.
• It chews well but it is not a teether. Fine to mouth, but not shaped to reach back gums. Our teethers are the right tool for real teething trouble.
• Soft means floppy. Silicone dolls do not stand as crisply as wooden ones. That is the trade for being safe to chew.
