Dinosaur Baby Feeding Set β€” six pieces, built around the full-size dinosaur plate

Our dinosaur suction plate, a matching suction bowl, a silicone sippy cup, a stainless steel and silicone fork and spoon, and an adjustable bib with a food-catching pocket. In Dusty Pink, Dusty Blue or Pale Grey. Suitable from 6 months. It is our best-selling set of the three, and the plate it is built around is the biggest of the three at 650ml.

πŸ¦• What the dinosaur is actually for

We would normally be sceptical of a shaped plate, so it is worth being honest about what it does. It will not make a child eat something they have decided against. What it does is get them to the table and keep them there a few minutes longer, because a plate they are pleased to see arrive is a plate they sit down for.

At seven in the morning, with a toddler who would rather be anywhere else, that is worth more than any feature on a spec sheet. It also gives you something to talk about, which is half of getting a mouthful into someone who is not interested in food. If mealtimes in your house are already calm, the essential set does the same job for less fuss β€” and we would rather point you there than sell you a novelty you do not need.

πŸ“ The biggest plate of the three sets

All three sets hold the same six pieces. The plate is what changes, and it changes capacity as well as looks:

  • This set β€” 650ml across 250 / 200 / 200ml, 23.5 x 18cm, 243g. Two of the three sections are the same generous size, so it is two real side portions rather than one side and a taster. It is the set that stays useful longest into toddlerhood.
  • The essential set β€” 600ml, 21 x 18.5cm, with a flat side that sits flush on a tray.
  • The modern set β€” 490ml, the smallest and lightest plate, sized for a six-month-old's actual appetite.

The plate in this set is the same one we sell on its own, so you can read its full specification on the Dinosaur Silicone Baby Plate page. Worth knowing in return: at 23.5cm it earns its keep from around a year, when portions grow and meals have three real parts to them. For a six-month-old on purΓ©es, the modern set's smaller plate is the better fit.

πŸ“… When each of the six pieces actually starts earning its keep

The pieces do not all come into use on the same day, and we would rather set that out than let you wonder why half the box is in a cupboard.

  • The bib β€” the first day of solids. The piece used most, hardest and longest. It is the same silicone waterproof bib we sell on its own: a meal bib with a pocket rather than a dribble bib.
  • The bowl β€” from six months. PurΓ©e, porridge, yoghurt and anything with a sauce. It holds 400ml in one deep section, 12cm across and 8.5cm tall. In the early weeks of weaning this does nearly all the work.
  • The plate β€” a few weeks later, and really from closer to a year. It is a full-size plate; sections matter once food arrives in separate pieces.
  • The cup β€” offered from six months, used properly nearer eight or nine. Early attempts are mostly practice, and most of it goes down the front. Hence the bib.
  • The spoon and fork β€” keep these back. See the next section, because this is the one thing on this page worth reading twice.

πŸ₯„ The cutlery is steel and silicone, and that means waiting

The fork and spoon in this set are the same stainless steel and silicone pair we sell separately, and we tell people the same thing there: they are excellent cutlery and they are not what you want at six months. Steel tines on teething gums is the wrong tool, and steel conducts heat, so a spoon left in hot food gets hot.

In practice most children are nearer a year before the fork earns its place. You can use the spoon from the start in your hand, carefully. For a baby doing their own scooping at six or seven months, our all-silicone fork and spoon is the right pair, and it costs little to add. Keep the steel set in a drawer until they are ready β€” it will still be there, and it will outlast everything else in the box.

πŸ₯€ The cup is the bite-to-open one, not the free-flow one

The cup in the set is our snack-lid sippy cup, supplied without the snack lid. It has a bite-to-open spout, which means a baby has to press it with their gums to get a drink.

That matters if this is a first cup. NHS guidance favours a free-flow cup for learning to drink, because a cup that needs biting or sucking works more like a bottle than a cup. Our free-flow silicone sippy cup is the three-hole, no-valve one and it is the better place to start. The cup in this set comes into its own a bit later, when a cup that does not pour itself out in a bag is the more useful thing to have.

πŸ₯£ A divided plate and a deep bowl, which is the point of a set

The dinosaur plate has three sections, about 650ml in all, for food that arrives in separate pieces and a baby who would rather the peas did not touch the pasta. The bowl is the opposite: one deep 400ml section, 12cm across and 8.5cm tall, for purΓ©e, porridge, yoghurt and anything wet enough to need a spoon. Between them they cover both kinds of meal, which two plates would not.

The bowl is only available in our feeding sets. It is not sold on its own.

πŸ”’ The suction, and what it will and won't do

The plate and bowl bases grip a smooth, flat, dry surface and take the shove, the bang and the sideways swipe. Wipe both the tray and the base first β€” a wet seal is a weak seal β€” and press down from the middle outwards. Neither will hold on a ridged or textured tray, or on bare wood with a grain, and no suction base will. A determined toddler who gets a thumb under the rim wins eventually, usually from around eighteen months.

πŸ”¬ What we have actually had tested

Our silicone plates and bowls were tested as finished products to EN 14372:2004, the European standard written specifically for children's feeding utensils, across 15 samples covering 13 colours β€” migration of elements, phthalate content, volatile compounds, formaldehyde release and bisphenol A release, with nothing detected.

A bowl from the range was separately tested by Eurofins against LFGB Sections 30 and 31, the German food-contact standard and among the strictest anywhere. It passed overall migration, peroxide value and volatile organic matter testing, bisphenol A was not detected, and a sensory panel confirmed no perceptible odour or taste passing into food. Every plate and bowl we sell is the same food-grade platinum silicone from the same supplier.

We publish the reports on our silicone information page rather than asking you to take our word for it.

🧼 Care, piece by piece

The plate and the bowl are marked oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe, which is unusual and genuinely useful β€” you can bake a small portion, cool it, freeze it, warm it and serve it in the same dish.

That marking applies to the plate and bowl only. The cup, the bib and the steel cutlery are dishwasher safe and should stay out of the oven. Wherever you see a feeding set described as simply "oven safe", it is worth checking which pieces that covers.

What we like about it

  • A plate that gets a reluctant child to sit down, which is the whole job
  • 650ml across 250 / 200 / 200ml β€” two proper sides, not two tasters
  • The biggest plate of the three sets, so it lasts longest into toddlerhood
  • Plate and bowl both oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe
  • Steel and silicone cutlery that will outlast the rest of the box
  • A bib with a pocket, which is the piece you will use every single day
  • Our best-selling set of the three, which tells you something
  • Plates and bowls tested to EN 14372, with the reports published

❓ Frequently asked questions

Can I buy the bowl on its own?
No. The 400ml bowl is only available in our feeding sets, so a set is the way to get it.

Is a dinosaur plate actually worth it?
On its own, no. What it buys you is a child who comes to the table willingly, and if mealtimes are a battle in your house that is the only feature that matters. If they are not, our essential set is the same six pieces without the theme.

Will I actually use all six pieces straight away?
No. The bib and the bowl earn their keep in week one. The plate is full-size, so it comes good nearer a year. The fork is best kept back because of the steel tines, and the cup is a practice object for a couple of months. A set makes sense if you are starting from nothing; otherwise buy the gaps from our silicone feeding range.

Is the cutlery safe for a six-month-old?
The spoon is fine in your hand. We would not hand a six-month-old a steel fork, and we say the same on the cutlery's own page. Our all-silicone pair is the one for self-feeding at that age.

Is the cup free-flow?
No β€” it is bite-to-open. For a first cup, our free-flow silicone sippy cup is the better start and the type NHS guidance favours.

Can the plate and bowl really go in the oven?
Yes, both are marked oven safe along with microwave, freezer and dishwasher. The cup, bib and cutlery are not.

Does it make a good gift?
One of our best. It covers a whole stage rather than one moment, it arrives looking like a proper present, and the dinosaur does the charming for you.

🍽️ Which of the three sets?

Same six pieces every time. The plate is what differs, in size as well as style:

  • Dinosaur β€” this one. The full-size 650ml dinosaur plate, 23.5 x 18cm. The biggest, and our best seller.
  • Essential β€” a 600ml plate, 21 x 18.5cm, with a flat side that sits flush on the tray. No theme.
  • Modern β€” the 490ml plate, our smallest and lightest, in muted tones that do not look like baby kit.

The plate, the cup, the cutlery and the bib are also sold separately, across our plates, sippy cups and bibs. The bowl is only available in the sets. Our guide to what is in a silicone feeding set, and whether you need one works through it honestly, and signs your baby is ready for weaning covers the timing.

Safety information

Adult supervision recommended at mealtimes. Check every piece before use and stop using any item if the silicone splits, tears or a suction base comes away. Keep the cup lid away from a baby when it is not on the cup. Steel conducts heat β€” do not leave the cutlery standing in hot food. Let oven-warmed food stand before serving.
