🦁 A puzzle and a set of animals

The pieces here are chunky enough to stand up, so once they are out of the board they become a little herd of safari animals — marched across the floor, lined up, fed imaginary dinners. That is why chunky puzzles last longer than most: the puzzling is only half the toy.

Matching each animal back to its own cut-out is early shape recognition, and it comes with practice. At one, expect lifting and carrying; matching tends to arrive later in the second year.
