🛞 Rubber wheels, and why that is the headline

Almost every wooden toy vehicle rolls on wooden wheels, and we say so plainly on the pages for our stacking number train and our farm tractor: wooden wheels are loud on hard floors and they will not roll on a deep pile. Rubber solves both. It grips, so the jeep actually travels across a rug instead of being dragged, and it runs quietly on boards and lino.

If your downstairs is carpeted, or there is a baby asleep upstairs, that single difference decides which wooden vehicle gets played with. It is also kinder to skirting boards.

🦁 Six passengers, and all of them fit

Four safari animals and two peg people, and the jeep is built so that every one of them can ride. That sounds obvious until you have owned a vehicle toy where only two of the five figures fit in the seats and a child has to choose who gets left behind — which causes precisely the row you would expect.

Loading everybody in, driving somewhere, tipping everybody out and starting again is the whole game at this age, and the counting of who is in and who is out happens naturally rather than because the toy is trying to teach anything.

We should be straight about where this sits: at 2 to 6 years it is the oldest thing in our jumini range and well outside the baby end of what we normally sell. That is not a drawback, it is what it is for.

⚠️ Worth knowing before you buy

• Six loose pieces, and a baby in the house changes the maths. Four animals and two peg people are small enough to ride in a 17cm jeep, which tells you how small they are. They are the whole point of the toy and they are also exactly the sort of thing a crawling baby finds first. If you have a younger one who mouths everything, this is a toy for the table or a closed door rather than the floor of a shared playroom.
• Things will get lost. Six figures and a jeep. Losing one animal is survivable; losing a peg person is noticed. Worth a box of its own.
• 17cm is small. This is a hand-sized jeep, not a ride-on or a big floor toy. That is why it travels and why it fits in a bag, but set expectations before it is unwrapped.
• Jumini describe the figures as a gender-neutral design. We mention it only because we would rather describe a toy by what it does: it is a jeep with animals and two people, and nothing about it suggests who it is for.

❓ Frequently asked questions

I have a baby as well — is this safe to have in the house?
With care, and we would rather you asked than found out. It is rated from 2 years and it has six small loose figures. They are the best part of the toy and they are also the sort of thing a crawling baby puts straight in their mouth. Keep it for the table, a high surface or a room with a door while the youngest is at that stage.

Will it roll on carpet?
Yes — this is the one that does. Rubber wheels grip where wooden ones slide and stall, so on a rug it travels properly rather than being dragged. It is also much quieter on hard floors than our wooden-wheeled farm tractor and number train.

Do all the animals really fit?
All six figures ride in the jeep, which is the detail that stops the arguments. Four animals and two people, all aboard at once.

Is it too old for my toddler?
Probably, if they are under two. The safari jeep shape sorter is the same idea from 12 months, with shapes to post and nothing small to lose. Our safari chunky puzzle also starts at 12 months.

How do I clean it?
A damp cloth, no detergents, and do not soak it. The rubber wheels are fine with a wipe.

Does it make a good gift?
A good second-or-third-birthday present, and a very good one to bring for the older child when you are visiting a new baby. Small enough to post, too.
