Silicone Non-Slip Baby Placemat — a grippy, wipe-clean spot for every meal, at home or out
A soft, flexible food-grade silicone placemat, a semicircle 41cm long and 22cm deep, that grips the table and stops bowls, plates and cups from sliding about — and our suction bowls and plates stick to it. It protects your dining table from the banging that comes with learning to feed yourself, wipes clean, goes in the dishwasher, and rolls up small enough to take to a café or a grandparent's house. In pale grey, dusty pink or dusty blue. For babies from around 6 months, when weaning begins.
🍽️ Why a placemat helps at weaning
A new eater pushes, pulls, bangs and tips everything in reach. On a bare table, a bowl slides away from their spoon and onto the floor. Silicone grips both the table underneath and whatever sits on top, so the bowl stays where your baby is aiming — which makes self-feeding a little easier for them and a little less messy for you.
It also gives a clean surface for finger foods. Toast fingers, steamed broccoli and banana can go straight onto the mat, and a quick wipe afterwards is all it needs. At 41 x 22cm there is room for a bowl or plate, a cup and a few finger foods side by side.
🛡️ It saves your dining table
We noticed this one with our own grandson. The moment a baby is old enough to hold their own spoon, they discover that a spoon makes a wonderful noise when it hits the table. So does a cup. So does a fork, repeatedly, with feeling. It is a perfectly normal stage — they are learning what their hands can do — but on a wooden dining table it leaves dents and scratches.
Put the mat down and the banging lands on soft silicone instead. The table survives, the noise is a good deal quieter, and nobody has to spend the meal saying "gently". It also catches spills and sticky fingers before they reach the wood.
🧲 A base for suction bowls and plates
Suction bowls and plates need a smooth surface to hold on to, and plenty of tables are not smooth — grainy wood, textured finishes, a café table you would rather not think about. Our silicone suction bowls and plates stick to this mat, so put the mat down first and the suction has something to grip, wherever you are eating. It is the easiest way to make a suction bowl work on a table it would not normally hold to.
🪑 Table or high chair tray?
It is made for the table — pulled up to the family table in a high chair or booster seat, which is where most babies end up eating. On a high chair tray it depends on the tray. It needs a flat area about 41cm wide inside the tray's raised rim. Larger trays have that; many compact and travel trays do not, and on those the ends of the semicircle will ride up the rim. A tape measure across the inside of your tray will tell you in seconds.
🎒 Rolls up for meals out
Restaurant tables are not always as clean as you would like. Because the mat is soft and flexible, it rolls up into the changing bag, so your baby has their own clean, non-slip spot — and a base for their suction bowl — wherever you eat.
⚠️ Worth knowing before you buy
- The mat grips; it is the bowl that sucks. On its own the mat stops things sliding but will not hold a bowl down. For a bowl that stays put, use one of our suction bowls or suction plates on top of it.
- Measure your high chair tray. It needs about 41cm of flat space inside the rim. It fits larger trays; on compact ones the ends will curl up.
- Strong flavours can leave a trace. Tomato and turmeric can tint silicone over time. Washing soon after the meal helps.

❓ Frequently asked questions
Will it protect my table?
Yes — that is one of the best things about it. Once your baby starts feeding themselves, spoons and cups get banged on the table. The mat takes the knocks instead of the wood, and catches spills too.
Will suction bowls and plates stick to it?
Yes — our silicone suction bowls and plates stick to the mat. That makes it a useful base on tables where suction will not normally hold, such as grainy or textured wood.
Is the mat itself a suction mat?
No — the mat is non-slip. It grips the table and stops things sliding; the holding-down is done by a suction bowl or plate on top.
How big is it?
A semicircle 41cm long and 22cm deep — big enough for a bowl or plate, a cup and some finger foods.
Will it fit on a high chair tray?
On larger trays, yes. It needs a flat area about 41cm wide inside the tray's raised rim; on smaller and travel trays the ends of the semicircle will ride up the rim. Measure across the inside of your tray to be sure. It always fits the table.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
Yes, or wipe it with a damp cloth or rinse it under the tap.
Will it stain?
Silicone is stain-resistant, but strong colours like tomato and turmeric can leave a faint tint over time. Washing soon after meals keeps it looking new.
When should we start using it?
From around 6 months, when your baby starts solid food. Our guide to the signs your baby is ready for weaning covers what you need and when.
