Silicone Suction Baby Bowl — the deep single bowl, for food that needs a wall behind it

One 350ml section, 11.5cm across and 8.5cm tall, on a suction base that grips a smooth tray. 🥄 The raised side is the feature, not a moulding quirk

Look at the bowl side on and you will see the rim is not level: one side sweeps up higher and curves inwards. That is a scoop wall, and it does a specific job. A spoon pushed up against a low, sloping edge shoves food over the side; a spoon pushed up against a high curved wall has the food fold back onto it instead. It is the difference between a spoonful and a smeared tray.

It helps whoever is holding the spoon. For you, feeding a baby, it means you can load a spoon one-handed against the back wall without chasing porridge round the bowl. For a toddler learning to feed themselves, it gives them a fixed, findable edge to work against — which is far easier than aiming at the middle of a bowl.

🥣 Depth, and the trade that goes with it

Our divided bowls are around 5.5cm tall. This one is 8.5cm, and the extra height is what keeps porridge, yoghurt, soup and anything with a sauce inside the bowl rather than running to the edge of a shallow section and off.

Worth saying plainly: deep does not mean bigger. At 350ml it actually holds a little less than our bear bowl, which takes 400ml because it is wider and shallower. You are buying this one for the height of the sides, not for the volume.

The honest limitation is visibility. A deep bowl is harder for a baby to see down into, and a child in the earliest stage of self-feeding finds a shallow bowl easier to aim at — the scoop wall offsets a good deal of that, but it does not abolish it. If you are doing baby-led weaning with finger foods and want them working unaided from the start, our round three-section bowl is the shallower, wider choice. This is the bowl for wet meals and spoon-led ones.

🧲 The suction, and what it will and won't do

The base grips a smooth, flat, dry surface and takes the shove, the bang and the sideways swipe. Wipe both the tray and the base first — a wet seal is a weak seal — and press down from the middle outwards. It will not hold on a textured or ridged tray, or on bare wood with a grain, and no suction base will. A determined toddler who gets a thumb under the rim will also win eventually, usually from around eighteen months.

♨️ Oven, microwave, freezer, dishwasher — the same bowl all the way through

Every silicone plate and bowl we sell is marked oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. Bake into it, freeze it, warm it, serve from it, wash it. Silicone takes all of that without warping or clouding, which means one bowl does the whole cycle instead of three different containers. The non-porous surface means nothing gets into micro-cracks the way it can with other materials, and it holds no smell.

🔬 What we have actually had tested

Our silicone plates and bowls were tested as finished products to EN 14372:2004, the European standard written specifically for children's feeding utensils, across 15 samples covering 13 colours — migration of elements, phthalate content, volatile compounds, formaldehyde release and bisphenol A release, with nothing detected.

A bowl from the range was separately tested by Eurofins against LFGB Sections 30 and 31, the German food-contact standard and among the strictest anywhere. It passed overall migration, peroxide value and volatile organic matter testing, bisphenol A was not detected, and a sensory panel confirmed no perceptible odour or taste passing into food. Every plate and bowl we sell is the same food-grade platinum silicone from the same supplier.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Why is one side of the bowl higher than the other?
It is a scoop wall. Pushing a spoon up against a high curved edge folds the food back onto the spoon; pushing it against a low sloping edge sends the food over the side. It makes loading a spoon one-handed much easier, and it gives a toddler a fixed edge to work against rather than aiming at thin air.

Is a deep bowl better or worse for self-feeding?
Both, in different ways. Worse for seeing in — a baby cannot look down into it as easily as a shallow bowl. Better for loading, because of the scoop wall and the height behind it. Our shallower three-section bowls are the pick for finger foods and early unaided scooping; this is the porridge-and-soup one.

What capacity is it?
350ml, which is a comfortable baby or toddler portion of porridge with room to stir. It is not the biggest bowl we sell despite being the deepest — the bear bowl holds 400ml and the divided bowls 500ml across three sections. Depth, not volume, is what this one is for.

Why won't the suction stick?
It needs a smooth, flat, dry surface. Wipe the tray and the base, then press from the middle out. Textured or ridged trays, and bare wood with a grain, will not hold any suction bowl.

Can it go in the oven, microwave and freezer?
All three, plus the dishwasher and boiling water. It is the same bowl from baking to serving.

Will it stain?
Silicone can pick up light colour from tomato, turmeric and beetroot. A soak in warm water with a little bicarbonate of soda lifts it.

Does it make a good gift?
Yes — it arrives in a presentation box, so it needs no wrapping, and it is the simplest bowl in the range, which makes it a safe choice when you do not know what the parents already have.
