🐻 The shape is the function

We would normally be sceptical of a novelty bowl, but this is the one parents come back for, and the reason is mundane: a child who is pleased to see their bowl arrive sits down sooner and stays put longer. At seven in the morning that is worth more than any feature on a spec sheet. The ears and the face give you something to talk about too, which is half of getting a mouthful into a toddler who would rather be elsewhere.

🥣 One well, 400ml, and shallow with it

A single section rather than divided, which suits the stage before a child cares about foods touching — and 400ml is a proper portion rather than a token one. It is in fact the largest single section we sell: our deep bowl is taller but narrower, so it holds 350ml. At 5cm tall this one is shallow enough for a baby to see into and aim a spoon at, which is what makes it a self-feeding bowl rather than one you feed from. 🧲 The suction, and what it will and won't do

The base grips a smooth, flat, dry surface and takes the shove and the sideways swipe that come with learning to eat. Wipe both the tray and the base first — a wet seal is a weak seal. It will not hold on a ridged or textured tray, or on bare wood with a grain, and no suction bowl will. A determined toddler who gets a thumb under the rim wins eventually, usually somewhere around eighteen months.

Supplied in a presentation box, which makes it one of the easier baby shower and first-birthday presents — it needs no wrapping, it is obviously useful, and the bear does the charming for you. The three colours are muted rather than primary, so it does not shout on a kitchen table.

♨️ Oven, microwave, freezer, dishwasher — the whole range

Every silicone plate and bowl we sell is marked oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe, and it can be boiled to sterilise. So the same bowl handles baking a small portion, freezing it, warming it and serving it, without warping or clouding. The non-porous surface holds no smell.

🔬 What we have actually had tested

Our silicone plates and bowls were tested as finished products to EN 14372:2004, the European standard written specifically for children's feeding utensils, across 15 samples covering 13 colours — migration of elements, phthalate content, volatile compounds, formaldehyde release and bisphenol A release, with nothing detected.

A bowl from the range was separately tested by Eurofins against LFGB Sections 30 and 31, the German food-contact standard and among the strictest anywhere. It passed overall migration, peroxide value and volatile organic matter testing, bisphenol A was not detected, and a sensory panel confirmed no perceptible odour or taste passing into food. Every plate and bowl we sell is the same food-grade platinum silicone from the same supplier.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Is a novelty shape actually worth it?
On its own, no. What it buys you is a child who sits down willingly, and if mealtimes are a battle in your house that is the only feature that matters. If they are not, a plain bowl does the same job for less fuss — our deep single bowl is the straightforward one.

Does the bear shape make it awkward to wash?
No. The well is a single open shape and the ears are solid silicone rather than hollow, so nothing pools in them. Dishwasher or warm soapy water, either is fine.

Why won't the suction stick?
It needs a smooth, flat, dry surface. Wipe the tray and the base and press down from the middle out. A ridged or textured tray, or bare wood with a grain, will not hold any suction bowl.

Is 400ml enough?
For a baby or toddler portion, comfortably — it is a full bowl of porridge with room to stir, and it is the biggest single section we sell. Our divided bowls hold 500ml in total if you want a main and two sides.

Can it go in the oven and the microwave?
Both, plus the freezer, the dishwasher and boiling water. Every plate and bowl in our silicone range takes all of it.

Will it stain?
Silicone can pick up light colour from tomato, turmeric and beetroot. A soak in warm water with a little bicarbonate of soda lifts it.

Does it make a good gift?
One of our best. It comes gift boxed, it is instantly understandable, and the bear means it reads as a present rather than as kitchenware.
